As an electronic control device, Tasers use compressed nitrogen to deploy two small probes up to 5 metres. The probes are connected to the Taser by a thin, high voltage insulated wire. When the probes make contact with the subject the Taser transmits electrical pulses along the wires and into the body of the subject. These pulses transmit into the body even through two and a half centimetres of clothing. Electronic control devices, use electrical energy to affect the signalling mechanisms used by the human body, thus, electrical output simply “jams” the communication systems of the body.

The current overpowers the normal electrical signals within the body’s nerve fibers; therefore, the subject instantly loses muscular control of the body.
